Petroc’s volleyball academy hone skills in Austria ahead of national competition

Last month, a celebration evening was held to mark another successful ‘Petroc Go’ educational trip.

Proud family and friends gathered to hear all about the trip and see the students involved collect their certificates.

In January, 19 members of Petroc’s Volleyball Academy travelled to Austria to spend two weeks training at world-class facilities in Graz.

The trip was funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme and the group experienced what it would be like to be an elite athlete with a full training programme, working on strength and conditioning and healthy eating.

Participants had the chance to play matches against high-level opposition, and watch professional matches.

Student Ellie Austin said: “Rather than training two or three times a week, we had sessions two or three times a day so we all saw a real improvement in our game.”

Although the regime may have been tiring, the group were able to relax with a day’s skiing and also a well-deserved visit to a spa.

This weekend (April 21) the Petroc teams will be competing in Nottingham in the AoC National Championships, after winning the South West Championships.

This is the 10th year in a row that our girls have qualified and the 9th in a row for the boys.

Good luck everyone!
